What is Allyship?

Allyship is an ongoing practice of solidarity. It’s about using your voice, resources, and privilege to uplift and protect marginalized people—in this case, Black and Brown Leather girls. 

An ally doesn’t speak for us but stands with us, listens deeply and intently, and takes action that reflects a shared commitment to our core values. 

Being an ally to LgOC also means honoring our lived experiences and doing your part to create a more inclusive, informed, and affirming Leather community.

Ways You Can Be an Ally to LgOC

  • Model Respectful Language and Behavior: Represent LgOC with integrity and honor. Whether you're speaking about us in your circles or sharing our name in public, do so with care and consent. Remember that you are a walking reflection of our misson and our values. Most importantly, be mindful not to speak over or for us.
  • Share Our Message: Amplify our voice by sharing LgOC’s posts, newsletters, and event announcements on social media or in your local circles.
  • Attend and Support Our Events: Show up—whether it’s in person or virtually—and encourage others to attend too. Allies make space for our stories to be heard.
  • Become a Donor or Fundraiser: Help us sustain our mission by making a financial gift or hosting a mini fundraiser to benefit our programs.
  • Include Us on Your Platforms:  Invite LgOC members to speak, teach, or vend at your events and spaces.
  • Be Open to Feedback and Growth: True allyship means being teachable. If you’re unsure, ask respectfully—and if you’re corrected, receive it with grace.
